Cushing House Museum houses the Historical Society collection.
The Caleb Cushing House Museum gives visitors a peek into the history of Newburyport, Massachusetts. The Museum houses a number of important collections, including the collection of the Historical Society of Old Newbury, dating to 1877. Furniture dating to the founding of Newburyport fill each room in the Museum, and there are maps and photos of early Newburyport.
In addition to a variety of historic documents, there are also collections of silver, furniture, oil paintings, antique toys, and more. There is a large clock collection, many of which were created by master clockmakers David Wood and Daniel Balch, who lived in the area.
Once the home of Caleb Cushing, US Congressman from Massachusetts and US Attorney General, the mansion is of the Federal style, and it has a a garden with trees, herbs, and flowers. The Museum building is listed in the US National Register of Historic Places and has been designated a US National Historic Landmark.
Tours are offered most days of the week between May 1 - October 31, with the exception of holidays. Cushing House is an important stop for history buffs who visit the North Shore.
