Video of lift

Lifted

Not as drastic as this: An old house move down State St. at Market Square. It looks like the corner of the house took some elm branches with it. The privy is up about two feet to repair the brick foundation.

Slowly lifted by hydraulics

Beams and Cribbing

Steel beams are lifted into place to support structure. The steel is rested on a bed of cribbing.
On a great recommendation from Dave Mack, the cribbing is placed inside the building to keep the lane open for the upcoming Garden Tour.

Granite State Building Movers

Unloading. Board members visiting the site before the lift.

Stan from Granite State building movers. He is a 3rd generation mover in business since 1940!

Critters

A warm bed of leaves
We were glad it was empty, seeing that it was such a large hole.

Ready for Building Lift

The floor system was totally removed to expose foundation. The new floor height will be raised another 8 inches.
The original flooring is almost 2" thick and in great shape, we will be able to salvage it.
The original flooring is exposed.

At some point 2x sleepers were used to raise the floor height.

Removal of existing floor

Demolition begins
The flooring over the sleepers is a typical tongue and groove board. It is not worth salvaging.
There might have been 2 separate privy holes. Notice the slanted board on the right.

The Business end

Was it one seat or two?
It has a 8 foot deep well
A similar privy at Jefferson's Monticello

Getting it Ready

We are setting up the site for removal of doors, windows and flooring. We do not want these items to break during lifting.
A beautiful 4 panel door. We might restore and hang on entrance to Summer kitchen.

Margaret's Privy

View down Fruit Street in late 1800's. Privy is noticeable behind main house on the left.
We are very excited and honored to be working on the restoration of this building. In need of some TLC.
